The crowded industrial towns and cities of Victorian Britain deprived the inhabitants of fresh air and light. The period therefore saw the rise of the public Park as an amenity for health and education. Mrs Rosie James’ looks at the history of Cardiff’s parks and some of the remarkable people involved with them. Her talk examines the earliest park, Sophia Gardens, opened in 1858, and goes on to look at more ambitious projects such as Roath Park, which opened in 1894.

This is the second in a series of 5 talks on the theme of Victorian Cardiff.

Adults £5.50, Children & Seniors £4.00. Buy tickets for all 5 talks and pay for only 4 (adults £22, children & seniors £16)
