Graham Crowley – ‘Paintings’ 31 March-13 may 06
Crowley lives and works in Ireland for part of the year, and these paintings are of that particular landscape. He is a sophisticated painter, using particular processes that serve as both a descriptive language as well as formal codes.
These are works of great clarity. Through reductive means he is able to articulate place, luminosity, plane and atmosphere, and enlivens this simplicity with passages of skittering shorthand that indicates immediate sensation.
Crowley has had strong connections to Cardiff through teaching. He is currently Professor of painting at the Royal College of Art.
