When: Wednesday 21st March 2007
Where: Techniquest, Stuart Street, Cardiff, CF10 5BW
Public Discussion: Due to advances in science, it is now possible for parents to select a child with specific genetic characteristics.
Scientists can screen for genes for serious disorders and susceptibility to certain cancers. They can screen for genes so a child can be a tissue match for an older, ill sibling.
But this process (known as PGD – pre-implantation genetic diagnosis) raises controversial issues.
Could this be the start of a slippery slope?
