Paul Daniel – conductor
Ravel: La Valse
Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet Suite
Sibelius: Symphony No 1
RWCMD welcomes distinguished conductor Paul Daniel to direct them for the first time. This attractive programme begins with Ravel’s luxuriant depiction of swirling dances becoming increasingly clearer as the mists disperse. Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet” is one of his most admired works possessing and unparalleled theatrical sweep and expressive power. Appearing in the same year as “Finlandia”, Sibelius’s “1st Symphony” shares some similar qualities whilst also revealing the influence of two great 19th century symphonists, Tchaikovsky and Brahms.
