The Welsh Camerata Choir and Welsh Baroque Orchestra present an evening of festive music dating from the 16th to the 18th century. Some works are almost certainly being heard for the first time in Wales...
Every Christmas we sing the same old carols. Of course this is good; probably the best known carols are those whose endurance is proved by their age. But not all! The suspicion is that some wonderful seasonal music has been forgotten. The Welsh Camerata has tried to redress the balance by presenting Christmas vocal programmes which explore little known but charming Christmas music of the past and of distant places: from France, from Lutheran Germany, from Wales, from South America. This year the choir has put together an intriguing programme of Christmas music of composers from Hungary, Bohemia, Croatia, Austria and even Spain (the Habsburg Dynasty had long arms). The music dates from the 16th to the 18th century and its suave beauties are almost certainly being heard for the first time in Wales.
