Cardiff based six-piece alt.country folk band, Jimi Alexander & The Satellites transpose pastoral Americana onto the bleak but beautiful cityscapes of their native South Wales to create something that is at once melancholy and affirming.
With their lyrical themes of searching and rootlessness, Jimi Alexander’s songs are beautifully realised through the playing of The Satellites who’s line up includes cello and viola in stunning combination with bass, percussion and guitars which can be mournful and melancholic at one moment and aggressive the next. Such an ingeniously inventive sound was bound to get them noticed and so it’s proved. With support spots for the likes of Alabama 3, Cerys Matthews and Danny And The Champions of the World, Jimi Alexander & The Satellites is definitely a band to watch.
