Beethoven Piano Trio

Today, the Gould Piano Trio will introduce the series with a performance of the Kakadu Variations and the Op.70 No.1 Trio (The Ghost).
RWCMD is privileged to welcome The Gould Piano Trio to work alongside College students on this exciting project. The complete piano trios of Beethoven will be explored by our students in a series of masterclasses which will culminate in lunchtime recitals on Tuesdays throughout January and February.
While there had been piano trios composed before Beethoven’s, notably those by Haydn and Mozart, it was Beethoven who, as with the string quartet, elevated the form into something sublime. The independent cello parts and dramatic interplay of instruments make these pieces some of the most satisfying chamber music ever written.
