The RWCMD Symphony Orchestra presents a programme in which composers explore themes of darkness, light, transformation, and reflection.
David Jones- Conductor
- Weber Der Freischütz
- Hindemith Symphonic Metamorphosis on themes of Weber
- Prokofiev Symphony no.7
The music of Weber dominates the first half of the concert. His overture to Der Freischütz, with its glorious melodies and turbulent harmony, dramatically represents the struggle between the forces of goodness and health with those of evil and dark power. Hindemith, in his Symphonic Metamorphosis, transforms some of Weber’s simple music for piano duet into a complex, engaging and beautiful orchestral work filled with joy and humour, whilst Prokoviev’s rarely heard 7th Symphony, with its ever changing moods, brings this exciting programme to a pensive, powerful and reflective conclusion.
