Love, ritual and the supernatural. From African moon love spells and Haitian voodoo to Brazilian dances and Ghanaian tribal cult music, Afrodisiac celebrates a mysterious brew of love and the supernatural.
Afrodisiac is an innovative new production, devised by composer Charlie Barber. It explores ritual and magic in African and African diaspora cultures through an exhilarating mix of music and visual art.
Charlie Barber has brought together two highly respected musicians of traditional African instruments: Seckou Keita, an inspired and charismatic performer of the kora (the West African harp-lute) and Chartwell Dutiro, an ethnomusicologist and performer of the mbira, the Zimbabwean ‘thumb piano’, whilst the visual element of the production will be provided by Cuban artist Raul Speek.
