Burlesque for Beginners classes in Cardiff

Brand new burlesque classes in Cardiff.
Think Dita von Teese, Gypsy Rose Lee and Bettie Page – we will take you through peeling, posing and teasing! Slip on your seamed stockings and opera gloves, as Viva Misadventure (Academy of Burlesque & Cabaret) leads you through the glamorous world of retro burlesque-striptease, introducing you to the art of ‘tease’, tassel twirling and the inimitable bump ‘n’ grind. You will be asked to bring different items of clothing each week, and we teach technique and then incorporate it all into dance routines, observing the concepts of character and narrative, as well as the bawdy nature of British burlesque! Our classes are guaranteed to make you feel sassy and confident, whisking you away into a world of glamour and humour – be prepared to realise your alter-ego!
Please wear small, comfortable heels if you are comfortable dancing in them. You will be advised on what else to bring week by week.

- RHIWBINA: Brand new six-week burlesque beginners course starts November 2011! Thursday 3 November-Thursday 8 December, 7.30-8.30pm. Rhiwbina Memorial Hall, 1 Lon Ucha, Rhiwbina, Cardiff CF14 6HL. £6 per class/£5 concessions.

A friend and I have just finished the Beginners course in burlesque with Viva and we wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed it. We really did not know what to expect and were a little scared at the prospect of baring any flesh! Viva was however great and put us at ease from the start allowing everyone to dance the way they felt comfortable. I did not know what I would take away from the course when I started it but after 12 (very quick) weeks I have had a great confidence boost and a lot of laughs. There is a lot more to burlesque that I initially thought and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about it.

I was at the Academy of Burlesque’s Beginners Burlesque at Dance City Newcastle in February. This is the third workshop I have been to provided by Viva and Gypsy and am already booked for Fan Dancing in March. I just wanted to say that all three workshops have been fabulous fun and I have thoroughly enjoyed every single second! Viva gives you a class full of fun and laughter and her enthusiasm is contagious. Please keep them coming, I’m sure there are plenty of people like me out there who will return time and time again.
