Cathays Consort of Viols accompany traditional Choral Evensong with music by Tomás Luis da Vittoria.
A selection of Early Music sung by St Edward's Choir and accompanied by Cathays Consort of Viols on period instruments in the context of the traditional Anglican Liturgy of Choral Evensong. The music is appropriate to the Passiontide season and includes Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (Quarti Toni), O Vos Omnes (part of the Tenebrae Responsories for Holy Saturday) and the setting of the Improperia (Reproaches) “Popule Meus” from the Pontificale of Prudentius (846-61) – three couplets sung antiphonally, with alternate Greek and Latin responses, often used on the afternoon of Good Friday. This is an opportunity to hear sacred Early Music in the form and context for which it was originally written.
