Taste Summer Fayre

A Diamond Weekend of Fun at the Taste Summer Fayre. Three days of free family fun and food spread over the Diamond Jubilee bank holiday weekend. There’ll be Welsh food and craft stalls, free live performances, craft workshops, free children’s activities and funfair games, afternoon tea and Pimms served in Hufen and ffresh ‘s summer menu and BBQ served on the new outdoor piazza.

Wales Millennium Centre is hosting a summer fayre for all families and visitors to Cardiff Bay during the Diamond Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

Starting on Sunday, June 3, the Taste Summer event is three days of free family fun and food. There’ll be Welsh food and craft stalls, free live performances, craft workshops, free children’s activities and funfair games, afternoon tea and Pimms served in Hufen and ffresh ‘s summer menu and BBQ served on the new outdoor piazza.

A stage will be set up outside ffresh Bar and Restaurant providing the backdrop for a daily programme of live music featuring Wales’ best-known jazz and folk bands including the Keith Little Jazz Band, Gypsy Jazz Wales, harpist Delyth Jenkins, WNO MAX Opera, Little Arrow folk band and the ‘green’ blues of Riverside Market’s founder Steve Garrett and the Soul Association.

For children there will be a daily programme of free make-and-do workshops where four to 12-year-olds can make a recycled royal family, by using junk materials to make their favourite member of the royal family, create their own king and queen sock monsters and even make their own crown. There will also be balloon-modellers, balancing acts and a picnicking couple walking around the Centre to entertain children plus a children’s games area with activities such as quoits, hula hoops a giant steady-hand buzzer.

Inside the Centre will be decked out in Union Jack and Welsh dragon bunting and families can browse around the summer craft and food market, which will include vintage clothing, cards and mugs, jewellery and hair accessories, cupcakes and children’s toy stalls or watch craft demonstrations.

ffresh Restaurant will be serving a Sunday lunch between noon and 4pm on Sunday June 3 with two courses for £15.50 and three courses £18.50. Kids eat Sunday roast lunch for free and you can park for free all day at Pierhead Street Car Park with a valid parking token per table. On Monday and Tuesday ffresh will be open for lunch between noon-2.30pm and supper 5pm-7.30pm and dinner between 7.30pm - 9.30pm

The Bar menu will be served in the ffresh Bar and there will be a BBQ on the new outdoor piazza between noon and 8pm on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The bar closes at 11pm.

Hufen will be offering afternoon tea serving scones, jam, cream summer strawberries and Pimms daily from 12noon-6pm.

The food and craft market will run daily from 10am to 6pm.
