BEETHOVEN Coriolan Overture
PROKOFIEV Violin Concerto No 2
SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No 5
Conductor Tadaaki Otaka
Violin Sayaka Shoji
Tadaaki Otaka returns in music by Beethoven and Shostakovich, embodying a heroic sense of human struggle in the face of overwhelming adversity. Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony is a social outcast's defiant reply to the state and its 1937 premiere restored his reputation. Experience it alongside the lyrical bitter-sweet nostalgia of Prokofiev's Second Violin Concerto, played here by rising star Sayaka Shoji.
