One Day Winter Fiesta

When: Friday 1st November 2013 - 9.30am until 5.30pm

Where: Scope shop, 7 Churchill House, Churchill Way, Cardiff, CF10 2HD

Leading Welsh law firm Hugh James is calling on shoppers in Cardiff to dig deep into their pockets and show their support on 1 November to help raise money for disability charity Scope.

10 volunteers from Hugh James are taking part in a Lord Sugar style ‘The Apprentice’ challenge, set by Scope. Putting their entrepreneurial, marketing and sales skills to the test by taking over a Scope shop for the day, the challenge will see Hugh James go head-to-head against another team to see who can stock and sell the most amount of goods, and gain greatest foot-fall and local awareness for the Scope shop located on Churchill Way in Cardiff from 9.30am until 5.30pm.

To draw in as many people as possible on the day and encourage them to part with their hard-earned cash, the team from Hugh James has created a “One Day Winter Fiesta” which they will host on behalf of the shop.
Hugh James is calling on the local community to have a clear out before Christmas by asking for help to stock the shelves of the shop that it will be running on the day. Local people are being invited to sift through their wardrobes and drawers at home and donate a bag of pre-loved goods, worth on average £20 to Scope. For the first 50 people to visit the shop and bring along a bag of unwanted items will receive a choice of tasty treats to enjoy whilst browsing around the shop.

Offering a special buy one, get one half price promotion on everything in store – just in time for thrifty shoppers to stock up on presents for Christmas - the team will be selling a wide range of clothes, shoes, jewellery and accessories, DVDs and books and much much more.

The fun packed day will see performances by Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) auditionees ‘Popstars Dance’, with several groups of different aged children, ranging from six to sixteen, performing routines outside the store between 11am until 2pm*. The group has recently auditioned for BGT and have won numerous awards for their street dancing ability. Parents who are interested in helping their child become a budding street dancer can meet instructors on the day for more information.

And the fun doesn’t stop there – shoppers will also be able to bring little ones to enjoy face painting whilst they stop for refreshments or to get a massage from a professional Laguna health and spa therapist who will be giving relaxation treatments at points during the day.

As part of ‘The Apprentice’ themed challenge, the Hugh James team has already got to work pulling strings through people they know and tapping up companies for support. To further entice shoppers through the doors of Scope and support the charity, the team are running a prize draw raffle with over 50 chances to win. Hugh James has already drummed up a huge amount of support from local companies to donate prizes and help fundraise as much money as possible through its prize draw. Prizes up for grabs include a first prize of an overnight stay at the four star Plough Inn in Rhosmaen West Wales; a second prize of a studio tour and opportunity to record your own show with Capital FM, a third prize of a cut and blow dry plus beauty treatment at Hair Essentials Ltd; and a fourth prize – two months Christmas parking at the Millennium Stadium. There are also a whole host of runner up prizes to be won ranging from golf lessons and spa treatments to private training sessions with a personal trainer.

Talking about their participation in the event, Rhian Riley, Campaign Manager from Hugh James commented: “We are delighted to be pulling out the stops to raise as much money as possible for Scope, and very much hope that the Cardiff community will throw their support behind us on Friday, 1 November.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses who have contributed to our prize draw or made donations already, and hope that all visitors to the Scope Shop have a really enjoyable time whilst shopping as they find goodies in time for Christmas!”

Imogen Frances Fitzpatrick of Scope added: “Scope is really excited to see such an engaged and motivated team take on the Scope Apprentice Challenge in Cardiff. In the run up to the big day on Friday 1 November, they have raised money and collected essential stock for their Scope shop. We wish them all the best of luck!”

The Hugh James team has already raised nearly £2,000 for the charity through its fundraising and sponsors page and is looking to raise as much as possible on the day. If you would like to donate, either visit the web link or come and meet the team at the Scope Shop on Churchill Way on 1 November.
