Contemporary Music for Voice and Piano with Sylvia strand - soprano and Tania Niemela - piano. They will be playing Messiaen -'Harawi', Stockhausen -Klavierstuk IX, Galina Ustvolskaya -Piano sonata no.4 and the premiere of Timothy Raymond's -'Shine Perishing Republic' (2008)
Tim Raymond's brand new 'sonata for voice and piano' is a musical setting of three strikingly different poems about America by the Californian poet, Robinson Jeffers. Of the title song in the sequence, the composer says that , influenced by the painting of Jackson Pollock, he wanted to 'saturate the musical canvas with expolsive, expressionistic events'. This is a concert of vividly different music performed by two highly accomplished artists.
