Featuring Dewi Watkins (Cello, WNO), CCSO will be playing three magnificent works in Penarth. Cardiff's own Symphony Orchestra performs three inspirational works at St Augustine’s Church, Albert Road, Penarth on Tuesday 17 February (8pm).
Joined by soloist Dewi Watkins (Cello, Welsh National Opera), City of Cardiff Symphony Orchestra will be performing Schumann’s cello concerto. Considered one of Schumann’s most adventurous works, this is sure to be a treat for the audience.
Celebrating his 200th birthday, CCSO will be performing Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony, a work inspired by his travels in Italy. Although never performed in his lifetime, Mendelssohn described the work as his ‘jolliest’.
Finally, the orchestra will complete this fascinating programme with a performance of Schubert’s Overture in an Italian style.
