When: Wednesday 17th June 2009 - 7.30pm
Where: St David's Hall, The Hayes, Cardiff CF10 1AH
The centre piece of this concert given by the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Symphony Orchestra is the brooding and intense 1st Piano Concerto of Bartok, featuring the RWCMD Concerto Prize winner, Siwan Rhys.
This intense concerto is framed by two wonderful, descriptive orchestral works. Bax’s tone poem Tintagel evokes the dramatic cliffs of Cornwall, and its turbulent, evocative seascape, whilst the Symphonie Fantastique of Berlioz conjures up the calls of shepherds, the cackle of witches and a dramatic march to the scaffold in what is perhaps the most famous of all Berlioz’s great works for orchestra.
– Conductor David Jones
– Bax Tintagel
– Bartok Piano Concerto No 1 (soloist Siwan Rhys)
– Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique
