Speechless echoes the real-life story of identical twins June and Jennifer Gibbons, daughters of Caribbean parents who moved to West Wales in the 1970s. Refusing to speak to adults, even their own parents, the twins communicated in their own private language, inhabiting a self-imposed, isolated world with their only relationship being their own extraordinary and turbulent bond with each other.
