A performance of Arcadia by Act One, Cardiff University's Drama society.
Written by Britain’s greatest living playwright, Arcadia has been hailed by critics as Tom Stoppard’s ‘masterpiece’ and voted Britain's 4th favourite play. As two sparring modern academics try (and fail) to find out what happened in Sidley Park during a visit by Lord Byron in 1809, the true story of the Regency occupants unfolds alongside the discoveries of their 21st century counterparts. Stoppard’s absorbing and amusing play takes us back and forth between the centuries and explores the nature of truth and time, the difference between the Classical and Romantic temperament and the disruptive influence of sex on our lives – ‘the attraction which Newton left out’.
