Casonovas, in Quay Street, Cardiff may not have the best location - opposite a multi storey car park - but the food more than makes up for it. Fresh food at reasonable prices
This small Italian restaurant, recently opened by four young men prides itself on offering a limited menu, but promoting fresh ingredients in all the cooking. The service is idiosyncratic, but the food is exceptionally tasty. The fish we ate was lemon sole, with chicory braised in butter and balsamic, with beautiful fresh carrots cooked in butter and caraway seeds.
The fish could not have been bettered. The Aberdeen Angus steak was cooked to perfection. Tne Pannacotta for sweet was excellent.
With a reasonable choice of Italian wines (we had a Barbera) the cost of the two course meal with drinks came to circa £60. It is definately worth trying and we hope it succeeds.
