Based on the Barry Hines book "A Kestral for a Knave", Kes tells the story of Billy Casper who has little hope in life and is bullied by family and friends. Billy finds an escape from his mundane life through training a kestral. As his training improves, so does his outlook and horizons.
The play marks 40 years since the novel was brought to the cinema in a film by Ken Loach.
